After the success of the Kildare County Show 2011 Local Hero competition, we have decided to make the local hero award a permenant fixture in the Kildare County Show.
This year the theme of the show is Support Your Local Community! We are looking for the people of Kildare to nominate someone they know, who has done extraordinary things for their local community.
All nominees will be presented with a certificate at the Kildare County Show on Sunday the 17th of June 2012.

OUT IN FORCE!

KILDARE County Show was once again blessed with wonderful weather as those who came along to the Showgrounds in Athy basked in a carnival atmosphere. Entry to the show was just €5 for adults and free for children and this – along with the good weather – ensured that the event was enjoyed by many.
The show had a very distinctly French theme with 28 visitors from Athy’s twin town Grandvilliers in attendance at the show. There was also a French tourism stand which had French produce for the locals to sample.
The show parade was led by a Harley Davidson and the Athy town crier Martin Chanders, who was closely followed by Churchtown pipe band. The 2011 Rose of Tralee Clare Kambamettu was centre stage in an army tank, followed by the 2011 Kildare Rose Claire Walsh and Ms Grandvilliers Marion Soulabail, who were transported in a vintage car.
The army was out in force and there was also a large display of Kildare Fire Service cutting equipment in association with the Kildare County Council Road safety office. Ben Woodhouse of Athy Fire Service and the Kildare County Council road safety officer Declan Keogh talked through a fire service exercise which showed how a casualty would be cut from a car in the event of an accident.
On a different planet entirely were the Star Wars characters from the ‘Emerald Garrison’ Club, who were joined by members of Aontas Ogra Athy dressed as Jedi Knights.
The day also featured archery and fishing for the children, as well as a Guinness world record attempt in the training of people in first aid.
Kildare County Show president Brian Ashmore said: “The show went very well, helped by the great weather. The gates might have been down slightly, but not by much. Planning will begin shortly for next year’s event and it’s a very positive sign that many of our exhibitors have already expressed an interest in coming back next year.”

We are proud to announce that the winner of the Kildare County Show Volunteer of the Year is Mr. Ger Kelly of the Athy Tidy Town Committee. Ger will be honored at our show this Sunday! Congratulations Ger and thank you to everyone who nominated someone for the honor. We had a huge response and it was very difficult for our judges to choose a winner. We are proud to say that the amount of volunteers in County Kildare is amazing.

Kildare Summer Safety Road Show

This year the County Show sees the launch of the 'Kildare Summer Safety Roadshows' which is a variety of displays and demonstration and incorporates all aspects of safety awareness such as road safety, fire safety, water safety, first aid, crime prevention, community policing and a road safety crash demonstration. And we are promised one or two surprises on the day.

Martin Conlon Executive Chef, Carlton Abbey - Cookery Demonstration

Martin Conlon from the Carlton Abbey Hotel will be giving us a great treat with a cookery demonstration at this years show.

Northern Ireland-born, Martin Conlon knows the 4 star touch required to be Executive Chef of Carlton Abbey in Kildare.
Martin began his career as a baker in Carrigfergus gaining valuable experience whilst training at college. During his twenty years as a chef he has also worked at the exclusive 5 star Hilton Hotel, Dublin.,
Martin has won a range of awards and has competed locally, nationally and internationally for Ulster and the Panel of Chefs of Ireland and is a multi gold medalist winner.
Martin’s cooking style has mostly been influenced by Anton Mosimann at London's Dorchester Hotel ,whose cooking style was classical French with an emphasis on best quality produce, cooked in an uncomplicated style. Taste was paramount.
